Searching the Dictionary

 

1. In the Dictionary tab, tap the search bar at the top of the screen to bring up the keyboard.

 

2. Searching words using Chinese characters

    Using the Chinese simplified or traditional keyboard, enter the Chinese word and click the blue

    search button.

 

    Searching words using pinyin

    Using the English keyboard, enter the pinyin word and click the blue search button.

    Pinyin can be entered in the following formats: “ni hao”, “ni3 hao”, “ni hao3” or “ni3 hao3”.

    You can also enter pinyin without the spaces to separate the syllables.

    Note: the number at the end of each syllable is the tone (1-4). Use 5 for the neutral tone.

 

    Searching words using the English definition

    Using the English keyboard, enter the English word and click the blue search button.

 

3. The results will be displayed in the space below the search bar. Words found in your flashcards will

    be displayed first, followed by the words directly from the dictionary.

 

4. Tap on a word to see its details, scroll down to see further details such as component break downs,

    examples, classifiers/measure words and which of your word list directories contain this word.
